NTUC May Day Rally & Dialogue

May Day Rally 2020 was held virtually and broadcasted on national television on 30 April 2020.

The programme started with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s first televised May Day Message in which he shared:

  1. While Singapore has felt the full brunt of the economic downturn brought about by Covid-19, the Government has rolled out $60b worth of assistance through the Unity, Resilience and Solidarity Budgets, to help companies retain local employees.
  2. Employers and workers should take a longer term view. On one hand, workers must accept wage sacrifices to keep businesses going. On the other, companies must also make every effort to retain their workers and help them through this difficult period.
  3. COVID-19 will bring about many changes to the global economy, disrupting industries and transforming jobs. Workers will have to reskill and retrain to remain employable, so that they can take up new jobs in new sectors.
  4. Tripartite partnership is one important example of how we work together as one nation, protect our vulnerable and leave no one behind.
